Liesbeth Grotenhuis is a Dutch art historian, earning her MA art history (Modern Art and Egyptian Art) from the University of Groningen and Leiden. Specialised in nineteenth-century art and particularly the Egyptian influences on it, her current research is on the iconographic motif of the Sphinx in Academism and Symbolism. Her collection of items in which Egypt and especially the sphinx is paraphrased forms the content of the blog ‘Catch of the Week’. The sphinxes found when travelling are presented in the ‘Catch of the Week On Tour’.
Working at the Art Academy Minerva in Groningen, she teaches, among others, ‘Babes and Bitches’ on the Victorian image of women and its echo in popular culture. Secondly she has been developing artistic research based on Visual Analysis.
